I am wiring up a 2-12 cabinet to use with my Showman head. The head has an 8 ohm output transformer. I can either wire two 4ohm speakers in series, or wire two 16ohm speakers in parallel. Do you think for clean head-room type playing I would hear any difference (assuming identical speakers)? The guys that run their tube amps broken up say there is a tonal difference. The Weber site talks about a damping difference at the resonant points. Anyone ever noticed any difference in tone?

There is perhaps a bit less interference between the two voice coils in a parallel configuration.

There would be a slight difference in tone between the two hookups. But in my experience, the amp controls have more than enough lattitude to compensate for any difference. Keep in mind that there are far fewer speakers available in the 16-ohm configuration, so finding a 16-ohm replacement in a hurry could be challenging.

Thanks for the advice. Donny, you have a good point. 4ohm speakers are probably much more common. I'll think I'll wire it in series.
