Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a different pick up to try out in my LDG...at the minute i have a E-66 which is great but i just want to try something with a different tone. I was going to buy either the George L's PF-1 or PF-2..
Do any of you have any knowledge of these pick ups, pro's and cons????
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and thanks for your time
I hope you are all well

Never tried either of those GL pickups.
When I had my Sho~Bud Super Pro, I didn't like the sound of it at all. I replaced the pickups with Bill Lawrence 710's and never looked back. Brought life into that guitar.
I just changed out my George L pickups on my Carter (E66 on E9 and 10-1 on C6) with The 710's. The George L's were great and the Bill Lawrence pickups are too. The jury is still out on which I like best. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I think I'd try to find Sho-Bud pickups; I like that sound (I played a borrowed LDG with one when I was just starting, and then the owner swapped in a 710, I thought it a step down).
Failing that, a TrueTone.
Like Richard, I've no experience with either of those two. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I have PF-1s on my pre-RP Mullen D-10 and like them a lot. I have an old Lawrence 705 on my old SD-10 Mullen, and I think they are very similar. My understanding is that the PF-2s are quite a bit darker, but I've never tried one. |

Yep....I think the Telonics pickups cover a very broad total range and all 4 I've tried we're superb.. _________________ ARTIST RELATIONS: MSA GUITARS

Bob Hoffnar hand winds the original Tonealigner (the design on which Telonics 84 is based?)here in Austin.
I've heard Bob play his Rains with those pickups and it sounds simply fantastic. I put a set in my Mullen D-10, but haven't had time to play around with it since I made the change. _________________ John Allison

Matt FYI I had a PF-1 on a LDG for several years as it was recommended to me by GEORGE-L.I later, however changed to a GEORGE-L 10-1 that I really liked better and got the tone I was really looking for on that Sho-Bud.Hope this helps. |

According to their literature, the Telonics is based on their own research and review of other designs from the 1920's to the present (including, e.g., microphone patents from 1934)... _________________ https://www.lostsailorspdx.com

A few years ago, I bought a Super-Pro. The E9 pickup didn't sound good and had a feedback. After talking to Jerry Wallace at Trutone , I sent it to him. It was old and had come apart. Jerry rewound it to the original specs. Now I love it. Reasonable in price and quick turnaround. |

I'll get flamed for this but... well.... I think basically anything you put in it will sound light years better than that George L
okay I said it...

I don't mind the E66, I just don't think it has much personality.
On my Zum, I replaced the E9 E66 with a TrueTone, and I'm glad. In defense of the E66, I haven't gotten worked up enough over it to bother changing out the C6 pickup.
Hmm. I wonder how a Zum would sound with a '74 MSA single coil. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Wow, thanks for the response people.. I guess i need to try a few of these out, which is tricky over here...But, i'll be in the states in june on tour so that will be my time to give them a go..
The Telonics and the Lawrence 710 sound like the front runners...someone told me lloyd green used a 710 on his sho bud
