Janie Fricke 2:15. Also, we're opening for Willie at his new theatre in Carl's Corner, TX Sunday night, which is billed all weekend as his "1st Annual BBQ & Chili Cookoff"....

Both of these events are being broadcast on XM Radio.

What XM station will be carrying it?
I got to go to the picnic in 1977 in KC, MO. Still have the hat I purchased that day! Have fun!

Asleep At the Wheel performed in (Baltimore) Dundalk, MD this evening. The band was real tight. Ray mentioned they are heading for Willie's Picnic.

They had a new singer that Ray said joined them the last month or so. Elizabeth McQueen, if I got her name right. If you get to the Picnic make sure you hear this lady. She ain't all that big a lady, kind of skinny to an old dude like me, but she has a voice that is big, full, and just downright great!

Her voice might knock your socks off!!!

I was really impressed and that don't happen all that often with me. Too many singers I hear, male or female, are trying to imitate some big star. She didn't! When she belts out a song, you is probably gonna remember her.

After she belted out her first song the crowd started yelling "More! More!" Later she did a couple more songs. Her electric rythmn guitar picking was flawless. She hit every chord exactly right.

The steel picker, not sure I got his name right, Eddie Rivers?, played a double neck Fender on them big, long stand-up legs. He played a mean sax, too. I wanted to ask him what his tunings were but after leaving the stage, the area where they were was completely fenced and required a badge to enter it. I assume one neck was C6.

His picking was just great. I never learned the C6 neck but played around with it in my younger days playing a triple-neck Gibson with them long stand-up legs.

These days I sit on my big fat butt at a double neck, E9th and C6th, and often wish I had taken the time to learn C6th. Got ten floors, seven of which are C6th. Sure would be fun to see what I could do with them and the three knees. If I get back to the Slabs this winter, I may sit down and play around with the C6 neck.

Anyone who can play C6 good certainly has my admiration for being able to do it.

It was carried on RFD-TV. I caught Janie Frickie's part. Now I know who the steel player was.
