Has anyone in the Forum tried out the steel bodied, squareneck Smith and Young reso, offered by National?

Thanx,
Jim

I got to play one of the prototypes at ResoSummit last year in Nashville, and thought that it was a very nice sounding guitar for certain types of music. It had a sound that to me was a cross between a wood body Dobro® and a tricone. It's pretty heavy compared to a standard wooden resonator guitar, as you might expect.
Gryphon Stringed Instruments had the round neck version of the metal body guitar in stock for about 30 minutes (at least it went very quickly). The friend of mine who played it really liked it.

What types of music were you thinking of, Brad?

I think it would be good for rock, blues, Hawaiian or most types of country music. I don't think the metal body would be as acceptable in bluegrass music, which tends to be a bit more traditional in instrumentation.
The Dobro® has enough problems being accepted by some bluegrass players just because Bill Monroe didn't have one in his band.
I'd be happy to own one myself.
