Can somebody chime in with what lapsteel Bobby was playing at the SWSGA show this year and what amp he was playing thru? Was the guitar a Fender Deluxe 8? I've seen him use this setup several times, but hadn't taken the opportunity to find out what it was.

Bobby was playing some kind of 12 string instrument, but only 10 strings on it. Doug Livingston and I were playing piano and bass behind him. I don't know what his tuning was, but he kept doing things that had us looking at each other and simultaneously mouthing the words "How'd he do that?".

It was a C6 and I think the first 2 strings were D and B. Also I think the low string was F. But my memory is failing already on these points so that may be wrong. I do remember that there were no tritones on the open tuning, so those and many other wonderful sounds came from bar slants.

Funny! He is so smooth and melodic. You guys were great backing him up too! Just always enjoy seeing him in this venue. Did either of you see what brand/model guitar it was?

When I recently saw Bobby playing that guitar, I believe he said it was a Cruztone

The 12-string you see here is a custom West Coast steel I built for Bobby some years ago. Bobby is consistently creative and tasteful. I miss hearing him play since I left the Bay Area.

Thanks Bob! Thanks Barry, Doug, Peter and Steve. I appreciate the feedback.

Doug and Peter, I should have mentioned that I appreciated your steel sets at the Show as well. I try to make one trip a year to AZ to visit family and get to the SWSGA show - unbelievable talent on display!!

Yes, I was there and talked to him about it. A "West Coast" brand steel guitar. Nice guitar, he had a 10 string C6th tuning with the D and B strings in the first two positions and a low F string like the pedal steel tuning. I think you could call this C6th chromatic tuning. It just might catch on.
Bobby did some really great chromatic runs with it!
Knocked my socks off you could say Cool
