I believe this model is called the DC-16. It is a D-8 with Bakelite necks, and aluminum body. This has been modified a bit. Painted white, a toggle switch added in the mid section of the body.
It seems the tunes were switched out and in doing so they drilled a few holes thru the top of the headstock and mounted them using machine screws with a nut on the back side of the tuner mount. The posts on the new tuners are a bit smaller than the originals as there is a decent gap arount the tuner shaft.
The case is in rough shape but still functions.
It is not the prettiest guitar, but it does perform. I bought this on the forum a few years back, I thoght about robbing the pickups out of it, but did not have the heart to do so. The pickups are worth the asking price alone.
Asking $600 plus shipping.

Now there is a sweet spot in my heart for that guitar..I was on the Island of Guam, during my 4 years in the U.S. Air, Force..There several times, In 1954 I was in the town of Agana. found a large building there that served as a general merchandice type, sort of a Wallmart of it`s day..Found not one, but two, Rickenbacker lap steels in there..a single & a double eight.I bought the double, & brought it home with me..An electrical friend of mine installed a "Shotgun" switch on it for me..Then I could get all that "crashbar" stuff on there like Speedy West.
Would you beleive I traded it off for a Multichord,so
I could get the pedal sounds..Sure wish I had that
back, but then, what would I do with it now?? I`m pedal warped..Got to have my D-10 & 8X4....Old Jer... |

Todd, how does the sound (tone) compare with the bakelite Rickys?
I have a '47 Rickenbacker (Panda - oops!), that I have been thinking about selling in order to buy a double of some sort.
The bakelite has very "warm" lows - maybe almost too low for some songs.
...but then, one doesn't want one that is too thin, either. |

Bill,
Honestly I have not compared the 2. I'll put some time in over the weekend and get back to you.
To answer other questions I have had :
The instrument is 24 lbs in the case.
22.5 inch scale.
I'll string it up to the buyers preferred tunings.

Hi Todd, hope you are well. Bill, and all who are wondering, I used to own this steel, and sold it to Todd. And it sounds like a bakelite, but with more clarity on the high end, and fat lows. The pick-ups are about a dead match in tone and volume too. And it is loud as hell. It is one of the best sounding steels I have ever heard. And I'm not just saying that. I'm saying that as a guy who sold it, and should have kept it. |

Kevin, Thanks for that info. I remember buying it from you, and so many wishing they had beat me to it. I have had a lot of inquiries but no takers as of yet.
A beautiful sounding D-8 for $600... hard to beat that.
Anyways, I have responded to Peters email. Sounds like it may have a new home.
