I've had Thomas cases made with this covering.
It's not really "tooled", it's just a pattern embosed on the vinyl. |

Greg, I did these pads for mine. Also, my Sho-Bud seat. It's not hard to do at all. You could certainly do it yourself, or I would be happy to make one for you. I use a special memory foam padding that has worked out great! |

Thanks guys. I am currently working with a supplier to be able to purchase this material in small quanity. I will keep you posted.
Greg - if you can get the material , I will make the pad for $20.00 plus shipping cost...I will try to do all I can to help.

Todd, very nice job on your pad! Can you tell us more about the memory foam and the fabric you used - what they're called and where you got them? The pad on my guitar could use a refresh, and maybe the pad on my pak-a-seat too; I'm willing to take a shot at doing them myself.

If you want a real "tooled" leather pad, I'm sure you could engage the services of a leather worker to make one for you. Have you tried Tony Lama?!?!  |

Erv, you handled ever handled real "tooled" leather? It's thick , heavy, and it doesn't have much stretch to it. Probably why you don't see anyone with a "real" tooled leather pad on their steel.
Tim, I'm not trying to make money by starting to make pads for everybody, so I'll let the cat outta the bag, so to speak..
The material is available, in stock, at all Hobby Lobby stores. If you don't have one near you, you can buy it off of their website,

As you'll see, they also have it in brown. In the store, you can buy as little as 1/4 yard for around $5, enough for a pad. It has a gray fuzzy synthetic type of backing.
The padding is a 3/8 thick re-bond carpet cushion(padding), with visco-elastic memory foam, made by Stainmaster. I'm in the flooring business, so I come by carpet pad samples fairly easy. The big box stores, Lowes and HD won't have these to give away or even sell. If you go to a local flooring store, they will have pad samples in several different gauges, 1/4", 3/8", etc.., that they would likely give to you. You wouldn't want to go with anything thicker than 7/16" thick. If they're a Stainmaster dealer, they will have the exact padding I used.
The memory foam is not needed for a pad, any good 6lb. or 8lb. carpet padding would do, but it does feel great to sit on for hours!!

Okay youz guyz. You've forced me into this project! I went and picked up the fabric and will get some 3/8 pad. My buddy Dick Sexton (Ret. military anal engineer type) will assist me or vice versa and we will report back after we do both of our guitars. We will do his first for practice and then we will do mine! 
This one hour project should take about a week with Dick at the helm. Remember; he measures and pre-cuts his strings! There is no doubt that these pads will be perfect!
Tim; no problem at all. What ever I have done for anyone is my pleasure. Diiiiiiiiiiiiiick

Dragging my dumb patoot into this here pad thing. I think I'll cover a chunk of 2X4 and call it his. Hahaha! If we were smart, we'd get one of our wives to film the whole operation, but they'd probably give up on us after the first few ritas and/or as long as this thing is gonna take.

Okay' here it is. Not that tough. The corners were a bit challenging. I didn't want any folds or creases. I wanted them stretched over the corners to give it a form fitted look. We'll do Dick's this weekend. His will be better yet. I'm satisfied. It turned out fine.
