Yeah, I've always thought the Nelson/Buskirk "Night Life" was a ripoff of this earlier blues tune. I first became aware of it in a version by the Lovin' Spoonful but Dave van Ronk had covered it early too, and both acknowledged strong influences of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Yes. Willie was definitely influenced by brownies. No doubt about it. Still is to this day. |

If I remember right Willie sold the rights to Night Life for $250 and originally his name didn't appear on the credits. It sure seems to me he directly adapted it from The Sporting Life. |
