On my recent trip to SoCal the wife and I stopped by Phil Trani's club in Long Beach to see old bud John McClung in action. Phil Trani's is a very nice and intimate setting and the band was excellent. It wasn't really a country band and did a well rounded variety of tunes for all tastes. I'd never heard John sing before and was impressed by his rendition of "Streets of Baltimore" and others. The bass player, drummer, female vocalist and especially the lead guitarist were excellent and played at a wonderful volume with a lot of taste. It's the kind of band I'd like to find back here but SoCal's always been a cut above the rest of the nation in musicians for sure........ The following day I was playing with Clarke Rohn at the Bellflower Eagles Lodge and John came by a sang a couple of tunes with us which was another treat........ Here's some photos of both events.........If you're in the LA area and want to see some great steelwork in a nice setting, go see John at Phil Trani's Thursday through Sunday nights.... Also the food is superb.....JH in Va.

Jerry: Wish I had known you were going to stop by and see Clark Rohm at the Bellflower Eagles, it's just down the 91 Fwy, about 15 minutes away. It seems like Clark has been there forever. I worked a lot of week end gigs at the Eagles with differen't bands over the years in the Main Room and the smaller Back Room. It is so good to hear there is still some great Groups (with John McClung) still around So. Calif.
