I bought this lap steel guitar awhile back and when I went to pick it up the guy said "Hey, look what I found out in the barn" and it was the original case.
It's phsically in great shape but it indeed smells like it has been stored in a barn for years.
Any ideas on what I can do to get the smell out? I'd hate to scrap a perfectly good case.

Sitting it in direct sunlight for a few days will go a long way.

Sitting in the sun would sure help. Maybe spraying some Fabreeze inside on the lining would help also...

Febreeze will help, as will fabric softener sheets like you'd put in the dryer. You might try some charcoal or baking soda as well, but the best solution will probably be lots of fresh air and sunshine.

Used to fill case with crumpled newsprint, changed twice weekly.

Had the newsprint anyway so cost nothing, certainly made a significant difference after 2 weeks, followed by the open air airing,

Seemed to work, hasn't been a problem since. Like the Febreeze idea, will try that next time.

you might also try a bar of your favorite hand soap - irish spring works well.just close it up inside the case and leave it in there as long as it takes . you can leave it in there indefinitely if you
want.wow - with all this good advice, you should come out smelling like a rose!or maybe something else
you like better!
