any body know if anyone is making replacement tuning pans/tuner assembly for 8 string Stringmasters?
Seems to me SOMEONE would have done it by now what with all the retro interest... _________________ "I just came in here from force of habit... I don't intend to spend too much time in here."

I haven't seen such a thing myself. I agree - you'd think if Fender Japan could reissue Stringmasters a few years ago, they might have spare parts lying around.
Time to contact Fender, I guess. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I'd love to get hold of some replacement tuning machines. I'm tired of stringing stuff backwards because the gears are stripped.
On the other hand, I don't want to pay some of the prices I've seen lately for original replacements.

I stumbled across some videos a guy made about learning to make the Stringmaster tuner pans on the internet. In your internet search window, put in: Fender Stringmaster Tuner Pan. Three videos should be listed. One of the videos he says to email him & the email address is shown at the end. I emailed him some time ago, but haven't heard from him. I think he was suggesting he could make the tuner pans for people, but he may have changed his mind, since he hasn't answered my email. |

I was able to get these to work with the stock pans.

I had to rivot the edge holes and add shims on the sides for a snug fit. They totally don't look stock, and not the best solution, but they work great! _________________ 1958 D8 Stringmaster, 1958 T8 Stringmaster, 1955 Q8 Stringmaster (in basket), 1949 Gibson BR9, 1953 Silvertone, 1957 Harmony H4 (yeah the cool black pearloid one), 1947 National Princess, 1969 Shobud S10 3X1 |

There are several previous discussions on this forum, starting around 1999. They were only available for a short while and were more expensive than a used Stringmaster. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

It was actually the Deluxe 8 that was reissued in Japan, Not the Stringmaster. |

I didn't know that, sorry.
I only saw pictures of the Deluxe.
It would seem that they were made from NOS parts and/or made from the old tooling.
Because I couldn't see Fender spending the 10's of thousands of dollars to retool just to make a handful of steels.
Even setting up the old tooling would be cost prohibitive for such a short run.
But then again, what do I know?
Just a theory. |
