A young lady from Moss Point, Mississippi attended our show at Dollywood (The Kinfolks Show) and she said that she would like to take lessons but did not know of any teachers in that area down there. She wants to know if there is any teachers in that area or in the Mobile, Alabama area that she could contact about lessons. Contact me and I will give you her name and E-mail address. She seemed to be extemely interested in learning to play steel.

Hi Stoney, I live approx: 35 miles west of MossPoint she can call me and i could give her some info on steelers in our area. We just had our steel show at Gulfport , Ms approx: 20 miles from mosspoint.

I've just put together a brand teaching course for steel guitar that I mailout to players. It's listed under FOR SALE: Music lessons,etc. here on the forum. It's divided into five levels that include whatever a player wants in the way of the E9th or C6th. Level I is excellent for beginners on the E9th tuning. Lessons are 30 to 40 minutes each and are on cassette tapes. Each level is 12.00 per tape ( 1 tape per level) and 2.00 from each tape goes to the forum as a donation. Not in this to make money but only to help anyone wanting to learn steel guitar. Thanks!

I'll second what ben said.Herby has taught/helped out alot of steel players in these parts for no more than a thank you.You wont find a better more gracious person anywhere.But you couldnt go wrong with anyone listed above either!

Back in the early 70's I bought my first steel (a Fender 1000) from Gene Lumbard in Mobile. I went over to Herby Stewart's house for some pointers and he was most helpful and congenial. I'm one of those people he helped for "Thank You". He was a fine player then and I'm sure he still is. Herby, you may not remember me, but if you ever read this, thanks for the kickstart!

I'll bet if you, Tony Lane, Herby Stewart, Lloyd Green, all got together for a talk session, There would surely be some history in that chat!!!

Then there was the steel man who looked like Norman Hamlett and used the key wells on his Fender steel for an ashtray! Played the Oasis, I believe.

Anyway, if I could only re-trace a few steps, I'd cash in on the wealth of steel & guitar knowledge there was in that town when I was there.
