hey guys, i got my superpro in today i bought from dave ristrim. thanks dave, no you cant have her back...good pics are on the classified page number 7 about 17 down. its the ad that starts out..sold superpro with anvil flight case. this is the prettiest guitar i have ever seen, not being biased. a few bar dings but you have to look for them. the e raises and lowers on different knees, but i hate to go changing things. take a look. this is like a brand new guitar. its a little darker red than in the pics, but son!!! i also have a question, is there any advantage to having the e lower on the right knee, and i have always had a 5th string lower from B to Bb , but can i do without this?

ok, i got it tuned up and 2 hours later i was still tweaking on it. i'll give it a couple days to get used to the stress and let the strings stretch real good, then it ought to be settling down. i already know im gonna have to remove a spring or two so the lowers can hit the right note. one goes lower, then as the lever keeps going it actually goes up. i know its a spring. but in general i cant tune the thing right now. its everywhere and unstable.it will be better in a week i bet. i hate the 6th string on the e9. there is something wrong with this string in general. i think its too small. lol anybody else thinking anything? |

It should be fine. The only thing I hated about the Super Pro I had was the pot metal knee lever brackets. You should replace all of them, but especially the LKL bracket. I broke the one on mine 3 times and this was before I had internet and didn't know others were making solid aluminum replacements. The LKL I think is more apt to break because your leg arcs to the left when hitting it and it hits the lever and bracket at an angle that breaks the bracket.
Oh, and I didn't like the tone (just on my guitar) and put some Bill Lawrence pickups in it.
With unbreakable brackets, I think the Super Pro is a great guitar.
About the 6th string: Some people use a wound string because it is easier to tune and keep in tune. But a wound is sometimes impossible to get to lower to F# on some guitars. Normally, the 6th is a plain string, either .020 or .022. I prefer the .022 as it stands out better in chordal melody licks than the .020. Some really complain about the .022 and that is way too thick and that is one reason that it is hard to tune. I have been using that gauge for probably most of my 41 years of playing and have never had any real problems. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I've already got knees and brackets ordered from james morehead. I hope the thing starts staying in tune. I've never had too much problem tuning one but this thing is everywhere. It is an as new guitar so I'm sure its the strings being new. Its a gorgeous guitar so it better tune up.lol not sure how to use the lever on the left leg. Three levers on the left. Awkward. I've got to put the e's on the same side too. |

Whatever is going on with your tuning issues is surely resolvable. I've had a Super Pro for 28 years, and it stays in tune like a champ.
JMO, but don't be too hasty to move the E lowers to the left knee. Once you get used to having them on the right, which shouldn't take long, you might like it. I do.
The biggest advantage is being able to do a smooth bend between E raises and E lowers. |

Tony, exactly what is the tuning problem? The strings won't stay in tune? They won't return to pitch after a pedal change? Maybe we can help you figure it out.
And, if you have been using your knee levers set up differently, go ahead and change them to what you are used to. No reason to have to adjust to the new placement. The Super Pro is real easy to work on. Just make notes of where the rod is placed in the bell crank and the hole in the changer. Chances are that if you can move the rods and still have the same holes used on the "new" lever, you probably won't have any problems. The worst I can see is maybe having to adjust the lever travel and that is no big deal. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Looks real nice Tony . I'm sure it 's nothing serious with the tuning . I have had several Sho~Buds and still have two and tuning wasn't any problem to speak about . The 6th string ( plain ) is a problem for us all i think ! You just have to mess around with it until you get an ear for it ! But be advised they will try your nerves ! But i wont replace it with a wound 6 th .! It was great talking with you today Tony . Best regards , G.P. |
