Last show of our European tour today in Sweden. We opened for Tommy Cash (Johnny's brother). The fact that most of his show is a tribute to Johnny I don't mind, but playing along with CD tracks of the tunes was down right lame. Karaoke basicly. I always liked Tommy's singing and I can understand he wants to make some money and not carry a band, but sheesh would have much rather heard him just play acoustic and tell some Johnny Cash stories.
There were a few people who left when they saw what he was doing and told us they would have much rather heard us and didn't care to hear his sing along with tracks show.
I'm probably a little cranky after 2 months on the road too.

I've worked 7 years, doing Florida tours with Tommy. He always used a band here in Florida either ours or one other band. He used to have a "road band" (a band from Pennsylvania) that would do other road shows with him in the midwest and east. He took that band to Switzerland for some shows a couple of years ago.

He's also toured some with Jimmy Sturr but I don't know what he is doing with a Polka Band (I haven't heard him with them).

He usually picks up a local band overseas. Must have not been paid enough to hire a band.

Although he mostly does his brothers songs, he likes steel and always told me to "play as much as I wanted" and even gave me a steel break on "Folsom Prison Blues". I would do the Horn part with steel on "Ring of Fire".

Tommy didn't make it to Florida this year. The RV parks are not booking as much as they used to. He liked it here in Florida, he could go golfing during the day and shows at night.

Tommy was my sponsor when I joined R.O.P.E. Association.

Pretty unprofessional. I wouldn't buy a ticket to see that. Not surprised people walked out.

Most didn't walk out. What was really bad was sometimes he'd be off by a couple of bars where he's going to the 4 chord but the tracks aren't. Like I said at first, I would have liked it if he would have just played his acoustic and sang the sings.

Tommy played at the Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, on Thanksgiving weekend. He was backed by the Howie Gamber band (with steel guitar), and they sounded great.
