I shall be at the second in a series of Hawaiian Music Series Concerts in Orange County at the Barclay Theater near UC Irvine tomorrow (Saturday 3rd March) evening. Look forward to meeting any forumites there. The first show (Willie K.) was a sell-out with tickets at $35 upwards a pop and tomorrow may be too.

A full house again, this second in a series of Hawaiian concerts in Orange County. Disappointing show by Hapa (Barry Flanagan and Ron Kuala'au), the former's guitar was repeatedly re-tuned to different tunings on stage (a no-no in my book), should have had multiple guitars, ended up with some numbers being played with guitars out of tune and even with wrong notes. There was too much talk and the set list seemed a bit wayward. In one number the lead guitarist almost wrenched the neck off his guitar to make it sound like a steel guitar. The hula dancer, Edieann Heali'i was a class act, though...

Looking forward to the next concert here on 21 April with Keola Beamer and Raiatea Helm. That should be stellar. Be there!
