We were in LA Wednesday to record an episode of Ellen that will air Monday May 23rd. I'm playing my new GFI Ultra D-10 through a Fender Steel King. I'm also using my new seat from SteelSeat.com. We played Redneck Woman. Check it out if you can. BTW, YES we were playing live...NO tracks! I haven't seen it yet but hopefully there will be some shots of my new gear. Also, for those of you who wonder, no, I don't play the lead break like the record. Gretchen told me the day she hired me that she didn't care for the version on the record to do my own thing. I've been asked that several times so thought I'd share it here.

Gaylon,
I just caught it. Great playing.
Unfortunatly no closeups on the steel.

It sounded like you took the beggining of the solo break and they showed a closeup of the guitar player and then the fiddle player for his part.

You could see you behind the guitar player but the camera man seemed to be focused on the guitar player.
Sorry man..
If i am wrong about the solo break please correct me .
Thanks -Dave

David,

That sounds about right. For the life of me I can't understand why those folks can't get their camera shots right. That's why we have to run through the song 3 or 4 times before taping. I think they are afraid of the steel. As a matter of fact, one person on the set was calling it a jews harp when they were talking about camera shots. It won't air here until 3pm. I'll see what kinda cluster it turned into then I guess. I don't care if I'm on TV or not personally but I would like to represent the steel guitar as it should be. I guess they were too busy waiting for a blistering rock & roll solo from the guitar to worry about steel uh, er...jews harp that is. Thanks for the heads up.

Gaylor, I caught Ellen's show after you announced it here and I enjoyed it a lot. You looked good up there buddy. I don't usually watch Ellen but made a special effort to and I'm glad I did. I bought Gretchen's cd when it first came out and really like it. Keep up the good work. Larry

Hey Gaylon-congratulations on your success in playing with Gretchen's band. she strikes me as pretty down-to-earth, seems like she'd be good to work with.

Just curious, what kind of lap steel(s) and dobro(s) are you playing these days?

I later noticed you have a link to Melobar on your site-which model(s) do you play? From the new owners? (Is it one of their new pedal-less jew's harp models?)
