I believe this is the best cover of this classic I've ever heard. The audience seems to agree. We hear a lot of negative about the ' new country' performers but obviously Sara Evans can crank out classic country when she wants to.

Her first album, "Three Chords and the Truth" showed hat a stong voice she has and it was all to real country stuff too. Her commercial hits began with her follow-up album.

This reminded me of about ten or so years ago, I was in London, England after visiting Gerry Hogan's SGF (Steel Guitar Festival), me and another guy walked past the Albert Hall. We checked out the program and it was the Mavericks and Sara Evans that night. We said "Oh, not to bad!" and bought tickets. It was Sara first, than came the Mavericks.
For an encore she returned to the stage to sing the Petula Clark song "Downtown". Well, this is normaly not my most favourite song, but under these circumstances it was. You should have seen the crowd, it was unreal how they reacted. Smile

About that same era, just as her 2nd (maybe 3rd) CD, No Place That Far, was being released, I got to see her in a little, nearby tavern. It was the Silver Dollar in Mt. Healthy, OH. I parked about 50 feet from the front door and made sure to get her autograph on my copy of her 1st CD, Three Chords and the Truth. From that one CD, I already knew she could sing as well as anyone I'd ever heard. I'm glad that she's become a commercial success, but I've given most of the later CDs to my daughter, who loves them.

She was very gracious to her fans. Unfortunately, she didn't have a steel player with her that night. However, she had her sister singing harmony and they got it done!

Well I've seen her on CMT from time to time. 'Suds in the Bucket' was hard to miss and I liked that tune. I just don't buy much new country. It isn't a question of not liking it, there's lots of stuff that I do like quite well. Maybe it's my demographic but I just don't buy music like I used to and when the wallet does come out it's usually for throwback style stuff. If Sara Evans would put out a country classics CD I'd buy that in an instant.
