what is the difference between these models other than appearance ? Am i right in thinking the chamiopns were an earlier model and the champ is later ? there is a very nice 66 champ on my local CL i am looking at but i think it's priced a bit high at $700. seller wont budge on price. seems the going rate is around $500-$600 but this one is pretty mint and all original. _________________ Emmons, Franklin, Mullen |

I bought a pre-CBS excellent condition champ without case for 600... 100 off the tag. The case is worth a lot, check ebay for ridiculous prices (350). I believe pre-and post-CBS doesn't make as much difference as it does for Spanish guitars; you can try to use this as a bargaining point, since most Champs you see are pre-CBS. If your seller has the original (black, right?) case his price is reasonable.
The Champion is the older model. The tuners on the Champ (basically Stringmaster stampings) make it worth the extra money, and the Stringmaster rod nut and bridge makes it a dream to play. The fact that it will fit a Strat pickup without modifications allows a whole world of pickup-swapping (planning to try a SD HotRails soon).
Or... buy both and start a collection. You can't stop at one, I guarantee that. |
