Topic: Advice needed on Rickenbacker Electro |

I have seen a Rickenbacker Electro lap steel for sale on eBay. The pickup looks pretty rusty and paint flaked but it apparently works okay. I was just wondering if these guitars have a good sound for the Hawaiian tunes that I am learning to play.
Any advice please? Or is there anything in particular I should be wary of? |

Rickenbacher Electros are the best for that sound, IMO. Do you have a link?

If the paint is flaking, it must have a steel body.
The bakelite Ricks are more noted for their tone qualities. |

Agreed. Those metal bodied Rics are nice too but they have a sort of hollow 'scooped' mid sound to them and are far less 'warm' in comparison to the bakelite bodied Rics, which (in my humble and admittedly intermediate level opinion) sound better than any other lap steel. Mind you I am biased, as I have an exceptional sounding '41 bakelite myself.
If I were you I would hold out for one of those... but if you could share the link with us we could give some better feedback I think.

My hope is to one day acquire the spanish guitar version of these Ric bakelites. I hardly ever see one for sale tho...
