Been touring Europe for the last 6 weeks and have had a variety of amps to play through. The Marshall acoustic guitar amp I had in the UK was the definite low mark. I've had a couple of Twin Reverbs and a New Fender Twin Amp that were just fine. For the duration of the tour in Sweden I was awarded a Vox Night Train 15 watt head with the matching Night Train 12" speaker box. I had my doubts about the 15 watts for steel. Fine for my G & L. I was surprized how great it has worked for both guitar and steel. Keep in mind we play at a low stage volume, but last night we weren't miked and it was still nice and clean for the steel and great tone. I might have to consider purchasing one of these babies when I get back home. Happy camper for the remainder of the tour.

That's good news, Dave, rented backline gear can make life on the road singularly unrewarding at times.

Dave:

Are there several Vox Night Train models? I have an all metal head Night Trian but I think it's only 5 watts with a 10" speaker.

The one I'm using now is a 15 watt head with a switch to cut it to 7 1/2 watts with a matching 12" speaker cab. It's a pretty clean 15 watts. Now that I've used it for a few nights definitely better for guitar than steel, although it's workable and gets a good steel sound. I'm liking the ASAT tone a lot. It's got the twang without the ear piercing high end. Looks like the head can be had for $420.00 new.
