Hi all,
I may be going to Kansas City tomorrow on a last minute work trip. Does anyone have any recommended points of interest for someone who loves old country and pedal steel? Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Not really country & steel, but have some barbeque at Arthur Bryant's - 1727 Brooklyn Ave.
Much better than Gates BBQ.
And don't forget to bring home some sauce... |

Great suggestion. That's sounds pretty cool, Colm. I like the concept, I was hoping for a suggestion like this. I also like the concept of delicious BBQ!!

On a more cultural note, there's a museum in Independence MO that shows what life was like for the settlers heading west from KC. Can't remember the name, and not far away is the home where FDR(?) lived. It's like he just left there last week. His overcoat is still hanging on the back of the door, and his car is still in the garage.

The Truman Library is located in Independence, not FDR.
There are some clubs around with country and steel. One of the Steelers from the Heartland Steel Guitar Club will probably chime in on this thread.
Having lived in KC for 23 years, I like Arthur Bryants, but I prefer Gates BBQ Sauce. The Fries at Bryants are still cooked in Lard - you get your yearly allowance of cholesterol in one trip - but it's good. Order a "Beef and Fries" - enough for two or three people. Both Bryant's and Gates have locations around the city but for Bryant's you have to go to the original location at 18th and Brooklyn. |
