Topic: Need Help finding stolen steel, etc. |

| Guys and girls, I could really use some help locating a stolen Lashley LeGrande, nv112, seat, etc. I am not going to go into a detailed description of gear yet so as not to prompt any unnecessary trouble. I have heard from a friend that gear is possibly on consignment? in the Iowa, possibly DesMoines area. I have pics. serial number of steel, witnesses to prove it's mine etc. Steel and gear have been missing for several months now and this is the first lead I've gotten. I don't want to go to police yet, until I know for sure. I do not hold person who has this on consignment responsible. So if anyone in Iowa area knows of any music stores or pawn shops with a blonde Lashley Legrande, and accompanying gear, I just need info. on where. Thank you so much for any help, I'm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and not familiar with music stores in the Des Moines area. Thanks again, Dave Chockley |

I guess it's my 47 years of performing criminal/civil investigations for some 350 law firms here in the Oregon/Washington area.....
that causes me to ask: "WHY NO POLICE INVOLVEMENT?"
"WHY NO POLICE COMPLAINT?"
Either it's stolen or there's some kind of hanky panky going on here. Surely you know the answer to that?

If it is anything like the times I delt with the police on stolen equipment, I did better doing my own investigations. The only time I've gotten anything back I found it myself. The police are still supposed to be looking. yea right. They only look if someone got killed. This from the cops themselves.

Ray, The reason is, that the person
I believe to be involved isn't a bad person, but one who has greater problems than even this theft (alleged). Granted I am very p...ed but if I can locate equip. myself, without police involvement, that;s how I'll proceed. No hanky panky, it's just that I've known very hard times myself in the past. and who knows where I'd be if others hadn't shown me compassion. I'm not asking for a lynching, just info. Dave |

I had an Alcoholic work for me about 3 years. I went to OK for a month on a job to come home to find he pawn $2-300 tools for $10-20 each @ a total of over $2000.00. Trying to help him, as you are in this case, and let him get them out. I ended up filing charges and lost some of my tools. Had I filed earlier, the law could have gotten the tools back, maybe. Of course I had to find out where they were. Bottom line I tried to help him by not going to the cops, wish I would have gone earlier. I HATE A THIEF! Especially one you were trying to help while he is ripping you off.

While this is a "property" crime vs "crime of violence" it is still a crime (and illegal) but you'll have a better chance at getting your equip. back if a police report is made and the serial numbers are entered as stolen. You may be able to have insurance cover it as well with a police report made.
Our pawn shops etc are required by law to participate in ALL pawned items being automatically reported to every law agency in MN.

The OP made a passing reference to not wanting the law involved because the suspected thief "is not a bad person".The thief has conned you,David;he is counting on you believing the con and not reporting the theft.If all that gear ISN'T on a police list,a pawnshop has NO obligation to return it,your insurance carrier may decline the claim,and a criminal gets away free.
Theft not reported is property not recovered,and karmic retribution is cold comfort. |

When I reported my MSA Clasic S10 4x5 with serial number: 1C2196, to the PD in the Nashville area and the person I knew had it, I never even got a reply. I'm still looking for it.

One of the things you find out about the PD is that they have no legal obligation to protect an individual or his property,and no legal obligation to recover stolen property.What they do have to do is take the complaint and keep a record of what's been stolen,in case it ever shows up.The utility of a police report is that you generally need one to get an insurance claim going.
I can't help but think about how essential one's instrument is to the serious player-just like a cowboy's horse in the Old West-and how sensibly the ad hoc extragovernmental justice system of the day dealt with horse thieves! |
