Topic: lap steels made by Dobro |

| I ran into a 10 string electric lap steel made by Dobro. I was wondering if I could get any info on those steels? If anyone know anything about production dates, price, and value cab you please let me know. The guitar is in good shape and so is the case, just want to know a little more information about the company and the line of steel guitars they produced. |

I can't help you with the value. But that was called the E45-10. OMI introduced that model in the late 1970s and discontinued it by the mid-1980s. There was also an eight-string E45-8.

| Nicholas I have a six string version of the same model and paid around $700 several years ago. In Vintage Guitar 2012 Price Guide they list a 1984 37 reissue Dobro Lap Steel at low 525 and high 650. It is what you think it is worth that counts. |

| To be honest I think its worth $1100-$1250 to be honest. Because its in good shape, 10 string electric lap steel, and the case is in good shape as well. |

Dobro serial numbers, usually a mass of confusion, were pretty consistent in the 1980s. That one is from 1984, fairly early in the year. The 8 means 1980s. The 110 is the instrument ranking (110th in the year). The 4 makes it 1984. E is for "electric."

Are you selling or buying? Probably around $500 either way, due to the lack of demand for such an instrument.

I agree with Brad......around $500.......IMO a 10 string lap steel is a tougher sell(if you wanted to resell it) vs a 6 or 8.....and while this may be a rarity, I don't think that this particular year/model is big on collector's lists.......
But the important question is.....how does it sound?......have you had a chance to play it? |

If you add legs, I would suggest 4 legs......two on the neck and two on the rear bout.....otherwise there'll be "a lot of shakin' goin' on"........  |

| The PU is probably an after-market replacement, which takes the vintage value down considerably, but as a player may increase it's viability. I've seen 10s and other x string versions, never heard a one, so I have no idea what an original sounds like, but I've wanted to. Plus, all I've seen looked to be decades older than from the '70s/'80s. Interesting item. |
