Below is a link to a YouTube of JD singing John Henry. Could the steel player (starting at 1:23) be Walter Haynes? It sounds like the steel player on JD's recording of "We Could" and I know that was Walter.

When I was still a youngster, I went to the Louisiana Hayride to see (I forget who) and we were allowed to talk to the performers and I asked the steel player his name and he said "Walter Haynes" but at the time, I was still braindead and unaware that I was in the presence of greatness. Just one of the times I wish I could go back for a re-do.
