I never was a Dick Clark watcher of his Music Programs. Did he ever do anything significant for Country Music artists ? i.e. Marty Robbins, Sonny James,etc, those who had crossover records ?

| My first sighting of Conway Twitty was on Dick Clarks "American Band Stand",, When his song,"Only Make Believe" was popular ( In the late fifties Im thinking ),,course that's not saying he ( DICK ) did anything for the Country Music catagory ( don't think he ever did ) I watched a lot of the"American Band Stand" shows and don't remember any country stars,,I didn't watch them all so I may have missed one with a country star on it,,I think Dick helped a lot of new comers in the Early Rock and Roll field tho,,I always enjoyed His Early Band Stand shows some stars I remember seeing for the first time on ABS was,,"Eddie Cocharn',Bobby Rydell","Fabian" "Conway Twitty"Little Anthony and The Imperials",Bobby Venton".to name a few.....R I P Dick..... |

| Dick Clark was no stranger to country music. His earliest radio shows were associated with that musical genre in N.Y. State. (Utica and Syracuse). |

True, in 1951 he hosted a country music TV program in Utica, N.Y., called Cactus Dick and the Santa Fe Riders. Later he produced the Academy of Country Music awards show, and I believe he originated the American Music Awards show, which recognizes several genres of music, including Country.
I remember watching American Bandstand faithfully every week in the late '50s and early '60s. I met Dick Clark briefly about 20 years ago when he came western MA to set up a music foundation. It was easy to see that he was someone special, a legend, a pioneer in the world of broadcasting and music promotion.

If only pause and rewind were TV options in the 60s - - would have made it a lot easier to master the dance moves we tried so hard to emulate on American Bandstand!

The first time I ever saw a steel guitar was when Santo and Johnny played Sleepwalk on American Bandsand. As I recall, Santo played the song on the middle neck of a 3 neck instrument. Possibly a Stringmaster.
Some of us do not have country music backgrounds. For me and millions of other baby boomers who grew up in the cities, American bandstand was the soundtrack of our youth.
R.I.P. Dick, and thank you for all the good times back then.

| Prime Time Country that was on TNN was a Dick Clark Production that he even hosted for a while. I would call that pretty significant. When I was with Ricky Skaggs we had done that show a few times when Dick was hosting. I remember one time we were having our makeup done together at the same time. He was very nice to me and we got a chance to chat a little. What an awesome moment. He will be missed. |

Don't believe those rag Magazines about the $500M that the 3 wifes and 3 kids as family suppose to be fighting over.They just ain't gonna let him (Mr.Clark) sleep in the ocean bed alone.
