Hey James, Welcome! I'm not sure where you are from in that Southeast Texas takes in a wide area, but you are probably in a hotbed of steel guitar players.
You might consider the Southeast Texas Steel Guitar Club that meets in Katy, I believe now on the first Sunday of the month. Check the announcements section of the Forum for specifics. We have a great club, with good steel music. You can meet folks and learn a lot about your new pursuit. Theres an open jam, it's free, but a coffee can is by the door for donations, usually $5.00 to $10.00.

Hi James and Welcome to the fray. I'm the same - psg novice, from SE Texas, Sho-Bud owner (for a whole week, now), and coming from 6-string background. There's a lot of personality around here, but mixed in is an incredible wellspring of knowledge and ideas. The Forum has done me a ton of good - hope it does you too! By the way, I have generated some whole-neck chord-pattern charts for beginners (me, to be specific). Let me know if you want 'em to start with.
