Hi, I am looking on information on swapping a fretboard. I want to put an emmons board on my thomas steel. The Thomas fretboard is like a thin aluminum looking fretboard. Would this be hard to remove? Thanks

First of all, you need three hands. After you grow a third hand, warm the free end of the board (the pickup end) with a hair dryer. After it's warm, slide a plain guitar string between the board and the neck. As soon as the end is loose, put a pencil under it to hold it up. Continue heating and working the string down to the nut, adding pencil spacers until the board is free. After the board is free, remove the remaining adhesive on the neck with GooGone.
Wipe clean and dry and slap yer new board down!

| I would also suggest you confirm that the replacement fretboard is compatible with your existing one. I don't know what a Thomas uses but I think the Emmons is a 24 1/4" scale, while a Sho-Bud is 24". Make sure it's the same scale length-wise. |

I use a .010 or .011 string. And I grip the string with two small vise grip pliers about 18 inches apart. Saves wear & tear on your hands. Yes and use the method described above heating as you go.
