After much contemplation, I've decided that the time has come for me let this wonderful ZB go. It's a 1966 D-10, with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers, finished in a really sexy two-tone cherry red/natural maple configuration.

There's some absolutely gorgeous figuring in the maple that my camera just doesn't show very well. An owner or two ago refinished it, so it certainly does not look like a 45 year old guitar.

If you look closely, you'll find a few bar dings on the top and some imperfections on the rear apron, but the finish is really in top shape.

It looks as though it may have taken a few tries to get the LKL positioned just right, as there are a few extra screw holes, and you can see where the wood started to crack as the bracket was being screwed down. It's purely a cosmetic thing, but I figured it's probably worth mentioning.

This guitar sports serial # 1038, making it a very early one, built by Zane Beck himself.

The fretboards are original, and they do show their age a bit, with a few nicks and scrapes and some wear on the edges.

As best I can tell, only one knee lever is original to the guitar, judging by the red plastic that matches the pickups. The other three levers are original ZB parts, acquired from Greg Jones. Current copedent is Emmons pedals on E9th, with LKL and LKR raising and lowering the E's, RKL raising F#'s to G, and RKR lowering Eb to D only. C6th is the old standard with G on top, and RKR lowering String 3 to B. If you're not comfortable working on a ZB, I will gladly switch things around before shipping, provided no additional parts are needed.

This guitar is a bit of a beast to lug around, so I had Kevin Hatton build me a set of split cases for it, and they still look practically new. Also included are a matching red cover and leg/rod bag. I'm looking to get $2000, shipping included. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or to see additional photos. Thanks for looking!</CENTER>

Adam, Just a bit of info here. Your guitar is a 66' built in Phoenix. #1038 was invoiced July 2nd, 1966 to Johnny Williams. Thats a great looking guitar and at a good price too!!! I happen to own its sister, #1037.

Good luck on the sale!!!

Adam,

Wasnt trying to step on your toes or hurt your sale any. There were only 57 guitars built by Zane in 66' and only 43 built in Phoenix before he moved back to Scranton so......this makes this guitar a bit more scarce than a 67' or 68'. As Chuck said, I am sure this thing is a tone monster and its in great shape too!!! Someone is gonna get a really nice guitar.

Adam,If I was a bit more flush I'd be calling for details.

Hey Adam:

Just wanted to say, lovely ZB. Sorry to hear that you're selling, but happy that it looks like it will find a new home.

Nothing else sounds like a ZB, especially an early Zane-built guitar. Love seeing the pics, particularly the end of the fingerboard with Zane's signature. (:

Best,
LC

Ha! Chris, you're actually the second person to mention that. It's definitely standard height; those clutches are are just positioned a lot higher than most others.

Chuck, that there's a good, strong Polish name that sounds nothing like it looks. It's really hard to spell it out phonetically, but in Polish, 'rz' is pronounced like the 'su' in 'pleasure' or 'measure', and, in the case of my name, the 'l' is like a 'w'. So, it's kind of like Pzhi-biw-a, or if you say it fast, it comes out more like "Shebiwa."
And there's your Polish lesson for the day.
