I have a Goldtone and notice everytime I'm done playing, the strap button can turn. I simply snug up the screw until the next time. I want to fix the screw hole. Should I add a shaved down toothpick, put some wood glue on the screw, or do something else?

thanks, Ron

This stuff. I use it in steel restorations, and antique furniture work. Just follow the directions.

Ron, I just recently posted a 'fix-it' trick for that very sort of thing on my 'Gizmo' page. Hope it helps.
If it's a relatively small screw (..smaller than a # eight), go with the 14 gauge wire. It'll hold.

I wouldn't have thought to use a piece of wire but will fix it. Thanks.

Ron,

Please do, let me know how it works out for you.

About a week ago, a steel player called me about a knee lever bracket that had stripped out on an Emmons - LeGrande, that he'd just bought. I told him about this quick, easy fix,..it worked out great for him, and he's as happy as a clam with it, now.
I use this trick, often, on cabinet door hinges that are stripped out. I've never had this method fail me.

The threads will actually cut, and 'tap' themselves into the soft copper wire. It will hold on like a starving wood tick.

The Goldtone is made of much thinner wood, although the endblock, or the neck stick will hopefully prevent any splitting. The product I suggested simply swells the wood fibers up. Although it was developed to tighten up loose chair rails, it does a great job on loose screws. Used it on a '59 Permanent recently.

I didn't mean to 'diss' your recommendation, in any way, John.
I was merely offering up an alternative solution. The copper wire trick has always worked very well for me, in almost any conceivable situation involving stripped out wood, and a screw.

I'm sure that the DAP is a fine product, but if you're in a time pinch, try the wire trick John.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
