Hi there Ben!
You still playing that great Clinesmith?
My guess as to whom that steel player is............
is HOWARD WHITE.....a Nashville regular for many years. He and his lovely wife lived across the street from famous Billy Robinson.
I too, used to play with Ferlin Husky or (aka) Terry Preston, Terry Fell, Simon Crum........when he traveled thro' the great Pacific Northwest Territory.

I played a few jobs with Ferlin on the East coast. He had Willis Wade playing fiddle then. I guess that would have been early to mid '70's. |

Jimmy Peppers who was his drummer in the mid 60's lives about 20 miles from me. We do some gigs together and I've recorded several albums for him, on songs that he's written.
Peppers was in the band with Jimmy Capps on Lead, Terry Bethel on Steel and Irlo Thompson on bass. |

Jack, when I was kido, my uncles played at Shorty Long's Santa Fe Park and I saw Ferlin do that song. He had a hot sounding steel player with him that day. Shorty says when he had Hank Williams there, he'd talk Hank into a card game and win his money back from him. Those were the days. I met Jimmy Day workin at a different park when Day was with Jim Reveves. I just thinking about steel pickin and Jimmy showed me his trick in doing the 3 frets chimes. Every time I met him, he treated me fine. I have a picture of Jimmy and myself when he was with ol Willie when he had 'short' hair and no beard. That's when he told me 'the tone is in the hands'. Again, those were the days. |
