Expecting delivery of my first PSG any day and can't wait to get started learning. I'm toying with the idea of keeping a log of my practice time. Obviously people learn at different rates and just knowing the number of hours spent does not mean anything other than for curiosity. Does anyone else do this? Anything additional which it would be helpful to keep track of? Anything the experienced guys wish they had noted? Any way such a log could be used to help the learning process?

Thanks!

Keeping a log is very useful, if what you're logging is keeping track of where you are in a particular project. Everything should be played in twelve keys, of course, and a Log is a very useful for keeping track. If you consider that there are multiple positions of every scale or run, and you practice one in the key of C, all positions of a particular "lick", then do it in F, and get partway through Bb, you note where you left off and start there the next day, rather than going back to the beginning. This can help make the never ending task seem a little more finite, and give you a yardstick for your progress. You could also include metronome markings - very clear progress indicator.

Thanks Christopher - I had not thought of logging WHAT I was practicing but it sure makes sense! That's exactly the type of suggestion I was looking for.
