I was listening to classic Poco stuff today & couldn't help wondering when he switched from ZB's to Sho Bud's.
I know his tone got really bright starting on Poco 7 but don't have the timeline when he made the switch. Does anybody know? And does anybody have details on both guitars that he used?

I won't be selling my Rittenberry's during this lifetime but am still curious about Rusty's incredible tones.

Thanks!
Jim

Thanks guys! I really appreciate that. I really did dig his early sound - very sweet & full. I think his producers made the "Bud sound too bright on a lot of his mid - period albums - but I can't blame that on the Sho Bud's - just the engineers/producers. Sad to say I could never get on with the mechanics of ZB's. But hey - now we've got Retro Steel to provide the tones of ZB with an easier undercarriage.

Wow,, In the article Rusty called himself, Red Rhodes, Sneaky Pete and Jerry Garcia "non professionals".. I beg to differ.. He could make a case for Garcia I suppose, but Red, Pete, and Rusty weren't pros???... c,mon....bob

I have a red colored LP album from mid sixtys with
Buddy, Rusty, Jay Dee, & Sneaky Pete. A very young
Rusty is pictured with a Sho-Bud and also some Poco
albums of that time frame showed him with the Sho-Bud. J.R.

J R, I think you`re referring to the Suite Steel album. It was released in 1970 and I don`t think there is a pic of Rusty with any make of steel....
If there is an earlier album with the same players, I`m, of course wrong....

Just held the Suite Steel album in my hands. The pics are all just head shots except the large pic on someone playing a push/pull.

Back in the early 70's we built Rusty a beautiful Sho-Bud with pearl inlay even down to a pearl inlaid Poco logo with a ruby eye - she's was a beautiful guitar!! Along about the same time or a little before/later we made a green Sho-Bud for the group 'Yes' with their logo in pearl inlay that made a beautiful guitar also. It was nothing for us to make completely custom guitars for the guys.
Musically yours,
Leslie

Hey Olli, I have that Guitar Player Magazine, Dec. 1972 so maybe that was what I was thinking about, J.R.
