I have been making copies of existing CD's and burning CD's from my Zoom H-2 recorder without any problems, but now, all of a sudden, I can't burn. I get a message that says" This computer is not authorized to burn or play xxx (xxx being the name of the file) Then underneath it reads "Authorizing this machine to play this song or video will allow it to be....then the message stops, incomplete. When I select new playlist, I can import the songs into the playlist, but only one or two songs will have the normal minutes and seconds of the song. 90 % of the songs on the playlist will just have not av, which I assume means not available to burn.

What has happened all of a sudden? How do I get "the machine authorized" as they say to do? I have iTunes on a CD, so I tried installing a new copy of iTunes, but that did not help. I am not very computer savy, so I don't know what to do to solve the problem. Can somebody please help me?

George,

Try downloading and installing the new version of Itunes.

If that doesn't fix it, check this link for other suggestions on fixing this problem:

Why are you apparently using iTunes to burn CD's?

There are plenty of other programs that are not as restrictive as iTunes. The Windows Media Player has CD burning functions. Your PC probably came with a CD/DVD burning program such as Roxio/Nero, etc and those work OK too.

A little more info on exactly how or what you are doing would help.

Jack,

Since he is getting authorization errors, it sounds like the files he's trying to burn are M4P (protected) files. He would need to use Itunes to burn those, unless he wants to find a conversion program which can have mixed results. Once burnt, they can be ripped and copied as MP3 or whatever using other programs.

The authorization comes from his user ID when logged in to Itunes - gives him rights to play / burn the files.

If your tried to burn files from MP3 files you own, then Jack is correct, try Media Player or something besides Itunes.

One more thought - Check and see if you are indeed logged in, and that this computer is authorized correctly.

1.Open iTunes

2.From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).

3.When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

The problem resolved itself. After the computer sat overnight, when I turned it on and went to iTunes, it went crazy and started loading all sorts of things on it's own. I just sat and watched as receipes and everything else was being loaded. When it was all done, everything worked fine.

My computer is an iMAC OSX vs. 11.4. I took it to a tech and he said the burner in it was a DVD burner, not a CD burner, so I bought an external CD burner. The computer came from a school and had been used by kids, so no telling what was not standard for the school use. But for $40.00, what can I expect.

I did run into something puzzling when trying to burn a CD. The first 2 tracks burned normally, but then the next 16 tracks burned fine, but where the time of the track is located on the right side, all 16 tracks had 789.57 minutes instead of the normal 3 or 4 minutes. None of these tracks would play and only happened on one rhythm track CD that I was trying to burn as a backup.
