Amber, Justin and I were in Nashville last week and were able to work in seeing the Time Jumpers at the Station Inn, this past Monday. We were pleasantly surprised to see Tommy filling in for Paul. I've never really been able to hear Tommy outside the Opry, so it was REALLY nice to hear him with the Time Jumpers. He's a GREAT player and a GREAT guy, to boot. Thanks, Tommy...for a super steel-filled evening!... Smile

I've yet to hear Tommy play through a bad sounding amp. Confused Idea

Maybe he's just lucky and they only send him the outstanding amps. Then that would explain why he gets the best, I mean my favorite sound of anyone in the business. Winking

Seeing that when Tommy Joined the Grand Ole Opry years ago; he had them change out the Amp Rack from Peavey to Webb....I would bet Tommy plays through a Webb amp Live(my guess).
Tommy White is a HUGE BREATH of FRESH AIR on any Stage with his steel guitar. He is truly a Master of the instrument and I can sit and listen to him for endless hours...and only other steel player I can sit and listen to like that would be Lloyd Green.
I LOVE Tommy White and he should be on completely EVERYBODY's CD to come out of Nashville(if Lloyd isn't avail....ha.)

Randy, thank you. I really appreciate you posting. It was my pleasure to hear and play for Amber and Justin. I'm definately a fan of both.
Thanks to all you fellas'.
By the way, I was playing through a Peavey Nashville 112. A few pounds lighter than my Webb!
Although I still prefer the Webb, I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112 that is also sounding good to me lately.

IMHO Tommy White is at the top and his style is to me what steel is about. Has a touch that only a few others ever mastered. Hope to get to see him live soon.

Hey Kenny; at least you didn't have to play the Opry like this>

ah..ha...
But Tommy not only is a wonderful player; he is a wonderful person and makes you feel at home at his "home stage". I'll never forget my times getting to play the Opry and Tommy was such a true professional and gentleman.

Damn it man! Whoa!
He stood about 10 feet away when i sat down to play. I would have dropped the bar if he was that clsoe to me Ricky! Laughing

I was shakin with him standing there and when i tried to hit a few licks it sounded like the vibrato was on shakin! Laughing Laughing

Honestly, when i did play a few licks Tommy said "Ya sound great Kenny" and from the "Master" well its all i needed.
He played a blues tune with the Whites that night and when he flip to C6 i was dragging my mouth on the floor! Wow i'm telling you guys nobody does what he can do!
You're right Ricky, he is an absolute gentlemen and a awesome friend to me. Pat Severs and i stood there together listening to him absolutly amazed. Pat had to follow him! Whoa!
Anyways he the best to ever touch the strings of a steel guitar for me!

I am going to embarass Tommy White a little bit here, but it needs to be done. When I was a staff writer for Steel Guitar World Magazine I made it a point to go out and see as many of the master players live as I could. I have seen Tommy play live at the Opry a few times. I saw him live in convention round robin situations next to Jeff Newman and Hal Rugg. I've seen him play live for tapings of the old Nashville shows. But the one time that really impressed me was a performance at the St. Louis convention. Tommy White played a steel guitar version of Beauty And The Beast. Before he played it he explained that he was dedicating it and it was inspired by his young daughter. What came out of that steel guitar and what rolled across the audience was pure love. It was one of the most heart touched performances any where that I have ever seen or heard. The emotion and interpetation that Tommy White put into that one song on steel guitar was the reason that I originally decided to play in the first place. I realized at that point what a truly great steel guitar player Tommy White is. One of the best of the best. You had me crying on that one Tommy. Bravo.
