I learned tonight that Gabby Burrow, owner of the Wagon Wheel Saloon, in Flint, Michigan, died tonight, Jan 25, 2012, 2 weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage at the Wagon Wheel. I don't know the funeral arrangements yet, as this just happened a few hours ago.
Gabby was a lead guitarist who worked with and later married Sylvia Jo, a bass player from mid-Michigan. Together, they operated the Wagon Wheel Saloon in Flint Michigan, from 1989 until today.
The bar was already scheduled to close on January 31, for legal reasons. There is going to be a farewell gig on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Wagon Wheel, from about 4 PM until 2 AM. I and the Country band I play in will be playing the first set, as we have to go back to the local Eagles club to play our regular Sunday night gig, at 6.
Pickers of all instruments are invited to sit in or sing. If you have played at the Wagon Wheel, in Flint, this may be your last chance to do so again.
The Wagon Wheel is at the corner of Center Road and Richfield Road, in Burton Michigan, just a half mile from the Flint City line.

I have learned that the funeral for Gabby (Darrell) Burrow will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 1 PM, at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI 48439 - phone 810-694-4141. There is going to be a farewell gig at the Wagon Wheel,on Richfield and Center Roads, Burton, Michigan, on Sunday, January 29, from 4 PM until closing. There will be steel guitars and Peavey Nashville amps set up for any steel players who wish to attend but not carry their gear.
