I need string that will fit an original DanElectro 6 string "TICK-TACK" bass. These have to be narrow enough for the bridge slots and the smaller tuning heads and 30" long. I have heard that D'Addarion pedal steel strings guages .017 to .075 are about right for this kind of bass. Any help? please us buckdilly@yahoo.com |

I was using a set of Ernie Ball 6-string Bass Guitar Slinky Custom-Gauge Nickel Wound Guitar Strings (2837) with gauges 20w, 30, 42, 54, 74, 90. This worked well on a Fender 6-string Jaguar Baritone guitar with scale-length 28.5" but run as a 6-string bass (which is how came from the factory).
I prefer this slightly larger gauge when running as a 6-string bass, and I think this will work with a Dano. But if you had a problem with the 90 being too large, you could just sub a 17 for string 1 and then use the 20w - 74w for strings 2-6. I got 'em here - http://www.juststrings.com/ebl-2837.html
btw, reviews on that page say these work fine for Dano. Dunno for sure, since I didn't try these specific ones when I had my Jerry Jones Dano-style many moons ago. I believe I made sets out of single strings, but pretty similar gauges to this. |

The problem is the narrow bridge grooves. Bass strings are too wide. Pedal steel string will work if they are long enough: 30" |

Just for clarity. THis is a copper colored vintage (late 50's) 6 string bass. These were the first ones ever manufactured. THis is the original tick tack bass used in session with Johnny Cash et al in the 50's. TO modify it is like putting a hood scoop on an original '63 vette. It is an awesom instrument. I am not the oly guy who owns one. SOmewhere someone makes strings that will fit. That is the only acceptable solution. Thank you all for your input. I hope to have a solution soon. |
