from what i understand Allen, there should not be custom duties applied, since the steel was made in the USA
basically you're correct, you'll only have the shipping to pay |

My experience purchasing a guitar from Japan required no US custom fees. The seller should make the shipping arrangements and depending on the country, additionainfers may be added (VAT or handling fees) in arranging the shipment. I suggest that you get this information from the buyer, and make it part of the deal. Be sure that the freight company/shipper will deliver to your location. By all means, get insurance.
I personally would not try to arrange shipment from the USA. |

| I think it has something to do with being declared as yours and the dollar amount at Customs before it leaves the states. If that paper work is not with it coming back into the states then someone (Customs) will put a price on it and you will pay a duty tax on that amount. Just my two cents worth. J.R. |

| All I can think of is that it must be either very rare, or very cheap. The shipping from the UK is not going to be cheap, and lots of opportunities for lost/damage. With a ton of great deals on the forums here, it just seems like an unnecessary effort (unless 1 or 2 from above apply) |

| Allen, the company I had great luck with a number of times was called Bax Global. It was bought by another company, whose name I can not remember. I tried a Google search but the site was down for a while as a protest against Congress attempt to pass a law to block companies from internet use they feel are infringing on other companies' property rights. Bax was cheaper than the others, faster and safer is what I found. Maybe someone else could chime in here. I had several pedal steels shipped to Europe. They also ship within the USA. Brokerage fees are applied by the carrier such as FedEx, UPS, & Bax Global
in no way are these Custom fees
i was searching for a thread w: the same topic but could'nt find it
there has been a couple
it was mentioned on that thread that US Customs usually did'nt apply Custom duties on American made gear ( which makes sense to me)
if the steel is to be considered your own personal property that's headed back home (& even if it's not)there should be accessible document : proof of ownership or sales bill in a clear envelope on the outside of the box

Have it shipped back as your presonal property or as a gift. Depending on the weight Bax global ( Schenker, Inc.) or USPS is the best.
