As testament to the majesty, flexibility, and difficulty of the pedal steel, I submit that I have not yet anything worthwhile thereon to offer, but in Best Wishes for 2012 to all, I submit my new toy, a soprano sax, doing Auld Lang Seine. Took two weeks to learn to work, two weeks to play the song. That says so much about the steel!

Humble apologies if considered OT, but Happy New Year! (Maybe next year on steel:)

The killer combo of the year:
Strymon TimeLine delay http://www.strymon.net/timeline/
Eventide SPACE reverb http://eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/Eventide_Space.aspx

The hotly anticipated TimeLine (essentially MKII, after the fantastic, original Damage Control version) finally saw the light of day this year. More complex than the DC pedal, this one has a boatload of options, and inspiration to spare. They may not have had pedal steel in mind when they designed this delay, but the instrument through a TimeLine leaves 6-string ambient guitar in the dust. And then goes into uncharted waters.

I had an Eventide Eclipse rack unit, which ultimately wasn't very live-friendly. At least if you wanted a pedal board, too. When I went to sell mine, I powered up the months-of-non-use unit, and fell in love with Eventide's sounds again. I found the SPACE reverb stompbox had just come out, and decided I needed Eventide's sound back. SPACE didn't disappoint. Lush, drop-dead gorgeous sounds, and then you take off for deep space. Mangledverb, Black Hole - to infinity and beyond!

My new favorite toy is the GK MB 200 and Sica 15. Still got the old Vibrosonic when I want the tube sound, but like the GK a bunch and it's feather weight.
2nd favorite is a silver face Fender Champ I picked up this last summer loaded with a 40 watt transformer and a 10" celestian. Killer guitar amp in a mighty small package.

For me it's the Telonics PRE1000 preamp, this unit has proved to be incredibly flexible and versatile with it's 2nd channel and built in Dobro effect, and other features. I love it !! Well done Dave and Stacy Beaty and Co.

I like my BBE Two Timer analogue delay. Based on the Boss DM2, you can toggle between two delay times. Slight shame you can't change the repeats/mix on the second delay but I got it cheap so I'm not complaining. Sounds excellent, much better than the Way Huge Aqua Puss which I borrowed for comparison, well built and looks pretty cool. I lose some cut-through at gigs depending on amount of mix but I've found my modded GE-7 easily brings back the top end.
