PPs are great if you have a PP mechanic in your area or at your disposal.. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

Guess I was referring to in case they need any adjustments or copedant changes.
As far as the Mad Scientist thing I have worked extensively on ZBs and i think that qualifies me..
I put that up when I was working out on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Guess I should down grade it to Handy Man now days. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

I initially requested the information because I am thinking of buying a another psg.I feel a person should understand it's workings from top to bottom to achieve it's full potential.I am unfamiliar with this type of system and should I make a purchase with a push/pull I would like to at least have a basic understanding.
Every ones advice, comments and suggestions are very helpful.I thank you all very much.

Billy Knowles, a forum member, is the best push/pull guy that I personally know. He lives in North Carolina. It will be worth your time and effort to speak with him. He fixed my push pull over the phone after I had sent him som photots. Just a thought. _________________ 77 Emmons Push Pull, Emmons Legrande II Nashville 400 (Mod), Nashville 400 (Fox Mod) Walker Stereo Steel, TC Effects, BJS Bar |

ken..if you can figure out zb's you can figure out push pulls. they're actually very logical and simple.
i had a friend who worked at area 51...i think the effects of radiation finally did him in. |

Yep......ZB's are much harder to work on than P/P's. In some ways push-pulls are easy to work on. Once you tune the changer's pulls, lowers and open positions, you can setup the rest of the guitar w/o a tuner.
Also, be liberal with the amount spacers (or stand-offs) you use on the lower push rods (between the bell-crank and collar. That will allow you to position the collars where they are more accessible for your long-handled allen wrench
Tools that facilitate p/p set-up:
- long T-handled allen wrwnches (5/64, 7/64),
- forceps
- long handled magnet.
- 6" long slot-head bits for a powerdriver/power drill
Take lots of pictures and ask questions on the forum. The p/p system is very easy to understand if you take the time to study it. |

PPs are not hard to work on after you've done some work on them.
I had Bobby Bowman set up mine and hung out with him for a few days on several occasions as we ended up taking it apart twice at my request.
My PP is much more stable at staying in tune and requires less tuning at a gig.
Once you become familiar with how to adjust them it is easy.
But it is not as obvious as an all pull.
Of course there are different opinions on the finer points of setting them up..
ZBs on the other hand can seem to drift outside the laws of physics. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.
