A few years back, Buddy recorded this song on his "Swingin' By Request" album, and Al Vescovo played it at the 2010 SWSGA show.

Does anyone know the origin of the song and who recorded it originally? I've tried Google and Youtube and have come up with nada.

Bob, that's not the tune. I'm familiar with both melodies.

Good friend and maven Peter Finney replied quickly by email with the information: Count Basie.

I had a big time playing Broadway
with the guys in the Jazz Room at
ISGC a couple years ago.
The three writers of the tune are
Billy Bird, Teddy McRae and
William Henri Woode.

Only Buddy and Russ and the late Al Vescovo.

Al, who only played C6, really was up there in the same league and Buddy and Russ and Doug Jernigan and Reece. He was supposed to play at the convention this year, but was too sick to go.

His death is a tragic loss for our community.
