This website has about two dozen 45s by Bill Haley and His Saddlemen, Four Aces of Western Swing, and the Comets, most of which actually feature solos by Billy Williamson on steel guitar.
I've never really heard Mr. Williamson stretch out before on the later Comets recordings, so this is quite a treat.
Warning: by far the most annoying song is Straight Jacket, the lyrics of which are the phrase "Straight Jacket" repeated 56 times.

Hey Brad, I noticed that on "Rock this Joint" it had the exact same guitar solo as the one from "Rock Around the Clock".... Is this pre Frank Beecher or some other guitarist? I don't think Frank (AKA "Franny") played on the original RATC recording.........JH in Va.

The solos were be Danny Cedrone, although Fran reproduced it from when he joined the Comets.

Thanks for posting this Brad. I got a real kick out of reliving those tunes that were so popular when I was a kid back in the mid to late 50's.
Elvis pretty much took over the "Rockabilly" sound when he came along in about 1956, but you could still hear plenty of Bill Haley and some of the other early rock and roll and blues artists on the radio in my home town of Birmingham, Al. If you stayed up late on weekends, you could hear all kinds of Rockabily, nasty blues, and a lot of the old "Panama City" sound on the local radio stations.
The kids loved that kind of music.
I read somewhere that Bill Haley quit singing country music after "Rock Around The Clock". I guess it was a matter of which paid the most dollars. He had a great voice and if he had lived longer, I bet he would have gotten back to making country songs kind of like what Jerry Lee Lewis and Conway Twitty did.

Proper records has a four disc box set called From Western Swing to R O C K, that covers Bill Haleys early country days through his success as a rock band. You can hear Billys early promence slowly move to the background during the evolution of Haleys sound. The first two discs have steel on almost every song. Some very cool rockabilly steel in there....Well worth the 25.00
