Recently made a straight swap of speakers with a fellow forumite. His BW 1203-8 arrived via UPS yesterday, with the bottom of the box extremely damp, and a large portion falling apart from the moisture. The package had to sit for a few days because of the timing of the shipment vis a vis the new year holiday. I suspect it was in a covered, but not closed loading dock area that allowed rain to pool up underneath and soak the bottom of the box (the top was fine).
After filing a report with UPS and allowing the speaker to sit for the day (no visible signs of water damage), I hooked it up last night. No problems: whew! Despite UPS's best attempts, the Peavey proved indestructible. Good job Peavey!
Now I have to figure out what 12" to pair it with that won't break my back: that thing weighs more than most 15"-ers I've owned.

Well, glad it arrived in usable condition. If there's any way it can be destroyed, UPS will usually find it. They left me hanging more than once so I don't use them anymore.
12" BW's weigh about 16#, only about 1# lighter than 15 BW's as they use the same magnet and that's where the weight is.
You might check out some of the neo-magneted 12's for a lighter weight, or look into replacing the existing magnets on yours with neo's from Peavey.
The BW's are heavier than some, but for steel guitar I like 'em. The older 1203-4 paper cone BW's as well as the older 1201's sound terrific with steel to me. Pretty good for standard spanish guitar as well. |

UPS did that to me on a new 1501. The speaker magnet was showing and the box was water soaked 2" up. However the Black Widow worked fine. I just took it out of my Steel King a few months ago when I got my new Eminence. BW's are tough !! _________________ Bill |

Several acoustic guitar and reso makers won't use Buster Brown anymore. Either USPS or FedEx Ground (the outfit that pays my boss), and I think USPS is cheaper. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
