Yesterday's benefit for Nelson Stoneking, at the Alamo Lounge in Sedalia, Missouri was a musical treat that fans of country music in the central Missouri area should not have missed. Nelson was there looking good and in good spirit. He stated that he had completed his cancer treatments and would get the final results from his doctor in another 2 to 3 weeks, so I would request that believers include him in their prayers for the Great Physician to intercede in his behalf.
As I stated earlier there was no limit of talent at yesterday afternoon's event and I am not attempting to take anything away from all of those who performed, because every performance was outstanding. However, there is one individual whose talent seems almost limitless, lead guitarist, Elijah Chastain. Elijah is a rare player who posses the ability to take guitar to a level beyond my comprehension. All serious players have a sound in their mind that they strive to produce, but few if any ever manage to bring that sound to fruition. However, there are a select few who achieve that level of artistry with their music and Elijah is such a player. What is worse, Elijah is as nice a person as he is talented, which only makes a person appreciate him even more. He is a regular member of the country music show in Louisburg, Kansas and I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to get out to here him play do so. My close friend, steel guitarist, Brad Rigby, tells me that Elijah has taken up steel guitar and coming along really well. It makes me feel better knowing that in a few years all my steel guitar buddies will feel as uncomfortable as I do when Elijah sits down beside them to play steel as he does the rest of when he plays guitar.
Special recognition goes out to Mike Nelson for his efforts in organizing this event and to all the players and performers who lent their talent in Nelson Stoneking's behalf, I know he appreciated it and equally enjoyed it.

Well done guys! I wish I could have been there to participate, and contribute. Mike Nelson told me that Mr. Stoneking played steel on stage at "Bradleys" on one of my appearences, and if Mike says it, - - IT'S TRUE! I wish I could say I remember him, but, I was so knocked out by all the great Musicians that took part that night.
That was the first time I did a show there I think, and what I remember most was that I had lost my voice. I was supposed to perform some of my Cowboy Poetry, and Cowboy Music, and when I heard that great house band, I wanted to sing a bunch of the great ole 4 - 4 shuffles. (Which I did the second time out, and every time after..what a blast!)
Kenny, I think you are an astounding guitar player, and I trust your judgment. I would love to hear this youngster, but it would probably make me want to make a lamp out of my Telecaster!
Sorry I missed the benifitt. It sounds like you-all pulled it off real good. |

| Chuck, I wish could have been there too. Elijah is in his early 30s and just amazing. You need to get back up this way sometime and pick with us again. I'm sure Mike can line something up when you are ready. |
