I have not seen this discussed, so thought I would post. I have used this free online tuner to tune my guitar when the computer is up and running right beside the guitar:
http://www.get-tuned.com/online_instrument_tuner.php
You can go into the small window at the top and tweak the Hz., but you have to remember to hit STOP after tuning a string to do so. I don't own a Petersen, just use a Korg or harmonics, but this is nice too if you are poor/cheap like me!
If you have found a better one, preferably one that is downloadable (so you don't need an internet connection for it to work) and that lets you save a setup on it, please post! Also, if you are a better computer geek than I, perhaps someone could grab the Java applet that runs this thing, put it into some code so we can run it without internet? Or, someone with too much time on their hands could just design their own version, specific for psg, and post a link to the download here! We'd all love you! If we are on this forum, then we most likely have a computer.... Why not use it as a backup or replacement for our regular tuner?
Cheers!

There's an App for Iphones and Ipad by Peterson. I think it's only $9.99. It doesn't have the tempered or sweetened tunings yet, but it does an excellent job. And bonus, my iphones always with me. They sell an adapter on Peterson's website for about $17 so you can plug a 1/4" guitar cord and tune direct. I wouldn't be without it. (and you don't have to be on line to use it) _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

Rick, I figured there were I-phone apps...but I don't need a phone that costs more than the stroboflip! I am around the water all the time in my work (not that I do much!) and pleasure, so I buy the cheapest phones I can as they are always at risk of going in the drink! I know, though, a lot of people have their computer set up next to their guitar so they can learn from a Mickey Adams Youtube vid, run the BIAB backing track, record their beautiful playing, and similar tasks. So, a really good simple tuning program for PSG would be a welcome thing. There are many downloadable ones free on the internet, but only one that claimed to do what I need...and I could not figure out how to work that one! Hence the "simple" requirement above!
Peterson has a software version, but it costs $50. I really don't need something that fancy.... I may go that route at some point. Just not ready to yet!

You can download a Java-based tuner, metronome, and tuning fork here - http://www.seventhstring.com/utilities/utilities.html
I use 'em all the time. You'll need to follow the instructions, and download the free Java JRE if you don't already have it installed. You should be able to find a Java JRE for essentially any platform you want to use - certainly Windoze, Mac OS X, most any flavor of Linux or other Unices. |

David,
SWEET! That is what I was looking for! Of course, it would be nice if we could save our tuning chart to it so we don't have to refer to it and change the Hz setting for each group of strings.... But that's no biggie.
I did have problems getting it to work in Chrome, but the instructions said this was likely. I just switched it so it opens in IE instead, and it worked flawlessly. Ain't computers grand?
Cheers,

If you Google the following phrase: free windows chromatic tuner
you will find several, including the one at 7th string. I'd have pasted the results link, but I had problem copying it.
For my Droid, I like the free tuner from Gstrings. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
