Any of you guys know , or ever heard of a player named Petey Bauknight, from the Orlando area. I might be spelling it wrong. He played in a band with my step father down there probably back in the late 60's - early '70's.
The first time I remember seeing somebody play pedal steel in person, was seeing Petey playing at a get together they all had at someone's house down there. Don't know what brand he was playing, but I remember it being a light green lacquer double neck. This was in or around 1990. I remember hearing that sound and asking my mother what it was he was playing.
Just thought I'd ask if any of you guys down there know anything about him. Old memories.... |

Back in 1968-70 I was stationed with the U.S. Air Force at McCoy Air Force Base, Orlando, Fla.
Right across from the Orlando's International air Port (and about 2 miles east from the base entrance) was the "Plantation Barn" which featured live Country Music on weekends. The band had a pedal steel player who played a D-10 Sho-Bud. I would listen to this band & steel player all night long hoping someday I too would be playing steel in a C&W band.
To this day I can't remember the steel player's name or the band's name, but they sure did crank out those country tunes, the steel player was awesome.

Jack. Do you know of this fella? I worked with him on a few occasions up in Springfield Mass, in the 70's. He filled in for us at the Ranch House Motor Inn. Excellent steeler, and I think he's now in the Ocala area.

Ray has been in the area for quite a while. He works at an Opry Show "Orange Blossom Opry" in Weirsdale, Fl (north side of The Villages area).

I know Ray as well.
I first met him about 20 years ago when he did a PSGA show NY.
I was very surprised to meet him agin when I moved to Florida.
He was the steel player for Catfish Johnny before Jack took over for him when he left. A super guitar player as well.
