Picked this up today. It came out of a barn in McKinney, TX. The owner was a player named David Jones, and he passed about 10 years ago. Apparently he played this pedal steel at the Opry in the '60's, according to his wife. We're still looking for a picture of this event but no luck yet.

This is a J&J 210 8x1. There is no serial # or any other markings on this guitar except the J&J logo. I know it was probably made in Panama City (I learned that from the only other post from 2004 about J&J) but that is all I know.

Anyone know why there is no serial #? Ideas on date of manufacture? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

These guitars were developed by Julian Tharp, and another fellow, near Panama City, Florida. Had a bruchure once, but have never seen a real one. Have no idea how many were built.

Thanks for the info. This is a really nice steel. It's lighter than it looks. It needs a little TLC and few springs replaced. Can't decide if I'm going to do that or not. I also found a nice Sho-Bud volume pedal with it but it currently is not working due to 10+ years in a barn.

Also found a late 60's Fender Band Master with it too...I'm working on cleaning and replacing the tubes. Going back tomorrow to try and locate a Pack A Seat and 40+ yr. old Opry photos.

I think so....I've been trying to figure out exactly what that is based on videos of a '66 Marlen pull release on the Internet but it's hard to compare.

I'm an actually an Upright and Electric Bassist whose hobby it is to fix up different instruments. I also collect just for fun. I'm trying to find out as much as I can about this particular guitar; I really would like to learn to play it.

How can I tell if it is a pull release? The only other experience I've had with fixing pedal steels was with a 1978 Dekley 210 that was a lot heavier.

Jack,
What years would they have been playing there? Trying to get a timeline fixed in my mind.

Casey, I had a Miller that was Pull Release. I had to rebuild a lot of it. To tell the truth I don't remember how it was set up. I'll try to get some info.
Wish we lived closer I would love to help you with it. Looks like an interesting project. Can you take some pix of the undercarriage.

Heres a pix of a Miller and undercarriage.

Your Miller looks really nice. I'd love to hear it!

I was planning on keeping this J&J but I just got a lot of new piano equipment so I think I am going to list it on the For Sale section here.
