I've been awaiting this particular issue, and have had an unedited copy of the article for half a year thanx to Don Triolo, Beryl's son, but am anxious to read the final product on this unhearalded West coast lady steeler, and see the pix. http://www.fretboardjournal.com/blog/fretboard-journal-23-highlights
When no less than Merle Travis seeks your steel employ, and calls you "the hottest lady steeler on the West coast", it means something. Now the world will finally know just what it means. |

I finally got a look at this issue, thanx only to son Don Triolo's quick generousity in sending a copy, as it's no longer sold in Hawaii!?! But it was well worth the wait, if just for the article on Ms. Harrell. Deke did a typically great job on it and the photo layout is one of the best I've ever seen on any lone subject. Nice to see some justice prevail in our unfair world, and Beryl Harrell's long call for deserved notoriety has been answered. Now for the HoF nomination! |

Great article! Hats off to Deke for doing such a fine job, well worth hunting down a copy if you are into the history of steel playin'.
Even murder in the plot! _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns

Post WW2 lesbian murder, no less!
Glad to know you appreciated the article, Mark.
BTW, at the back of the mag is a full page shot of an extremely early Rick Bakelite w/wood fretboard and an unusual horseshoe PU, probably a prototype. |

Read it last night, excellent job by Deke, and a very interesting story.
Also fine articles in this issue about Buddy Miller, and Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. _________________ Mark |
