Yes, you can buy 'em in sets here from b0b, Williams and Zumsteel at least. Probably Jeffran Music and several others. Probably some Uni players here have more suggestions.

I think they're pretty much the same gauges. Sierra recommended heavier strings though such as 18 5th and 22 6th but you should be OK with the "standard" sets.

There are two common Universal tunings, although the Bb6 never quite caught on like the E9/B6 did.
The E9/B6 is available in sets readymade.

Sure. Strings 1-8 are identical to E9 -- same gauges / same changes for the E9 side of the tuning. String 9 is the same as 10th on E9. 11th-12th are about the same gauges as the bottom 2 on C6 056 or so and 070 or so. There are sets available from several mfgrs. There are many variations on the copedent. Jeff Newman's version is probably the most common. See the copedents at
http://b0b.com/tunings/index.html

My website has some of my ramblings on the C6 side of the tuning
http://www.larrybell.org/id24.htm

I've used the E9/B6 12 string tuning since 1975. It is one of several universal tunings and is the most common by far.

I know this thread is about string gauges, but I do want to put in a little plug for Bb6 Universal. If your main interest is jazz, but you want the ability to play any style of music on one neck, Bb6 uni is amazing, to me. It feels more like one big tuning than the E9/B6 did (to me), and not having to spend so much time holding down a lever is nice, too. I am not a fan of lever locks, personal taste, of course - they work great for many players.

It seems like the E9/B6 makes more sense if you're mainly playing country styles. Either way, Universal is a great way to go, in my opinion.

Typical Geo L's E9B6 are same as E9 w/o 9th string and then going from 36-42-54-68(B-G#-E-B).

It's an E9th without the 9th string, plus the low 3 strings of a C6th.

Didn't notice that you're on the other side of the border. Al Brisco has Uni sets and a lot of other stuff too. http://www.steelguitarcanada.com/acces/strings.htm
