Does anyone know if there a program or a way to split up a youtube video into smaller sections and loop it so I can learn to play each section of a song by itself?

Download the video as an .flv file and then use VLC media player to play it. VLC has a looping capability, and can play about anything I've ever tried to throw at it.

I imagine that there are free youtube downloaders out there, but one can use Unlocker to directly copy the .tmp file out of the C:\Documents and Settings\<your_user_name>\Local Settings\Temp directory on a Windoze system (which is where they're stored when running Firefox).

VLC: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/1.1.11/

Unlocker: http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

They're both free.

VLC fantastic! There is an easier way to download Youtube videos
www.keepvid.com Go to the film you want to save, and copy the url, then open another tab and go to Keepvid.com and paste the url in the bar, and you will be given many choices on how you want to save the file. FLV,MP4, etc. I always choose 720 MP4 because of better resolution. VLC will play it and you can loop the entire film. Enjoy! RC

Thanks Dave & Ronald. I'll try these programs today. I suspect downloading the videos isn't a problem but breaking them up into manageable pieces may well be.

I guess that was my point - with VLC, you don't need to break them up because it has a loop function.
