This bass has been a studio workhorse for me, but divorce is expensive.
The facts: nitro clear coat, non-original tuners and bridge, non-original hardshell case, macassar ebony headstock overlay/control cavity cover/pickguard, and two Fred Hammon Darkstar pickups which are repros of the Hagstrom Bi-Sonic Pickups used by Barry Oakley of the allman bros band (before he died) and Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane.
If you were to buy a beater vintage EB, you'd probably drop $800-$1200. For argument's sake, let's split the difference and call it $1000. The pickups are slightly more than $400. The ebony and the nitrocellulose clear coat, the tuners and the bridge would run you more than $200, even if you did the work yourself, not counting time of labor. So really, it's a pretty fair price. At $1600, I would INCLUDE shipping, make an appropriate donation to the board, and only take a small hit on this bass that I don't really want to sell. It sounds awesome with flats, but will ship with rounds, as that is what are on them at the moment, and most people seem to prefer rounds. This bass can do rock, country, motown, fingerstyle funk. It's not a great bass for slap. The pickups are awesomely responsive, and the pole pieces are adjustable per string. The bass is light, comfy, and well balanced, probably because of those pickups which keep the neck from diving. I'd prefer to sell locally, but divorcees can't be choosers, clearly.
Hope you dig it,
Phil
